New British curriculum school to open in Dubai's Al Furjan district
November 14, 2017, 6:45 am GMTThe Arbor School, a new British curriculum school, will open in Dubai's Al Furjan neighbourhood in September 2018, and will be managed by a new education company called Praxis.
The co-educational school will cater to students from FS1 to Year 13. The Arbor School will open classes from FS1 to primary in the first year, with a secondary section to be added in subsequent years.
The school will be headed up by founding principal Charles Grayhurst, who has more than 20 years' education and international school management experience.
Fees at the school will range from AED 56,000 per year in foundation stage to AED 95,000 per year for Years 12 and 13.
The first 100 students to register at The Arbor School will receive a 10% discount on their first year's tuition fees, while every other student thereafter will receive a 5% discount. Students who attend The Arbor School in its founding year will have their fees fixed at the 2018 – 2019 fee structure for as long as they are enrolled.
The Arbor School will benefit from both a scientist and artist in residence, who will inspire the whole school community to think and act differently, facilitating their engagement with environmental projects both locally and globally.
Facilities at the school will include a biodome and a learning garden that will serve as key learning spaces to engage children in a deeper understanding of their ecology and environment.
Praxis Education head Dr Sa'ad Al-Omari said: "Human activities are seriously impacting global climate, threatening not only ecosystems, but also economies around the world, leading to an increase of hardship in societies on every continent and on generations to come. A contemporary ethic based on compassion and responsibility towards both the human and non-human world is needed now more than ever. It is this higher ethical sense that we aim to instill in our students, in the hope that they will form a vanguard generation that can begin to reverse the harmful trajectories we see unfolding around us."
