11 Abu Dhabi schools to participate at 2017 WRO finals in Costa Rica
November 6, 2017, 6:15 am GMTThe Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge has chosen 11 teams, comprising 32 students, from public and private schools in Abu Dhabi to participate at the 2017 World Robotic Olympiad (WRO) in Costa Rica.
The three-day competition is scheduled to take place from November 10-12, and will bring together young people from all over the world to develop their creativity, design and problem solving skills through robotic competitions and challenges.
The Cycle 1, 2 and 3 students chosen to represent the UAE have worked during their summer holiday, as well as weekends and after school hours in order to qualify for the finals.
The 11 teams were shortlisted after the WRO national competition, which was held in Abu Dhabi on May 22, 2017.
The UAE students will be competing in different categories in Costa Rica, namely: the Regular Category which requires elementary, junior and senior students to come up with innovative solutions using robotic technology to create Sustainabots: Robots for sustainability; the Open Category which includes building a robot that helps promote sustainability; and WRO Football - an exciting Robot soccer match that requires students to design and program two robots to compete against an opposing pair of robots by kicking an infra-red ball into opposing team's goal.
