June 16, 2016, 8:10 am GMTA two-year old boy, who drowned in a swimming pool at his nursery, has died after battling for his life in the ICU.
Syed Raza was pulled from the swimming pool at a nursery in Satwa and taken to Latifa Hospital, where he spent 27 days in the ICU.
Staff allegedly found his body floating in the pool after noticing he was missing after a play break.
"With deep regret, I wanted to inform you that Raza passed away today afternoon," Khaleej Times quoted his cousin Asher Jaffri as saying.
The family is expected to pursue a legal case against the nursery, once they return from the boy's native Pakistan after his funeral.
Safdar Abbas, the boy's father, also called the incident "suspicious". According to Abbas, the parents had previously filed a complaint with the principal about marks he had found on his son's face.
The nursery has remained close since May 19, with students attending a sister branch in Deira.
